Drawn at the classic 1:24,000 scale, it presents the city and its surrounding countryside with the disciplined clarity for which USGS topographic mapping is admired. Streets, highways, rail and road corridors, streams, parks, and cultivated land appear within a precise grid of contour lines, revealing both the expanding urban fabric and the subtle relief of the Big Sioux River country. The map’s distinct color-coding makes the built-up portions of Sioux Falls immediately legible, while the surrounding rural tracts retain the open geometry of farms, section lines, and drainage patterns.
The US Geological Survey, founded in 1879, became one of the great scientific institutions of American landscape knowledge, tasked with measuring, classifying, and depicting the nation’s terrain. By the mid-twentieth century, its 7.5-minute quadrangle maps had become indispensable tools for engineers, planners, geologists, land managers, and local governments. “Sioux Falls East” belongs to this mature era of federal cartography, when aerial photography, field checking, and standardized symbology combined to produce maps of exceptional accuracy and utility. Our standard frame is a gallery-style black ash hardwood frame, with a simple, modern look. It is approximately 20mm (0.8in) wide. You can also view some lovely customer photos of framed maps and art.
We use super-clear acrylic glazing, also known as Perspex or Acrylite, instead of traditional glass. It is lighter, safer, and has lower reflectivity, giving the artwork a clearer, cleaner appearance.
Six standard frame colours are available at no extra cost: black, dark brown, dark grey, oak, white, and antique gold. Custom framing and mounting/matting is also available for customers looking for something more specific.
Most maps, art prints, and illustrations are also available as a framed canvas. We use matte cotton canvas, stretch it over a sustainably sourced wooden box frame, and then float the piece within a wooden outer frame. The finished result is beautifully presented, with no glazing between you and the artwork.
All frames are supplied ready to hang, with either string or brackets fitted to the back. Very large frames will include heavy-duty hanging plates and/or a mounting baton. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Once restored, the map is prepared for your chosen size and finish. Your piece is then printed and, where selected, framed close to its delivery destination.
