This wonderful old map of the Alps was originally published in 1874. It was created by Johann Mayr.
Famous for its many ski resorts, the Alps is undoubtedly one of the best-known mountainous areas worldwide. This is a detailed map published around the time that skiing was used not only as a method of transport but as a recreational and competitive sport.
Over 190,000 km2 in size and surrounded by eight countries, the Alps boast some of Europe's highest peaks. This map is sheet 4 of 11 from "Mayr's Alpen-Atlas".
This sheet covers southwestern Switzerland and includes mountains such as Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Jungfrau, and many others.
This map looks great at all sizes: 18x12, 16x20in (40.5x51cm), 18x24in (45.5x61cm), 24x36in (61x91.5cm), 30x45in (76x114.5cm), 33x50in (84x127cm), 40x60in (102x153cm) and 47x70in (120x178cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 110in (280cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 36x24in (61x91.5cm) version of this map.
The fifth listing image shows an example of my map personalisation service.
The labels on this map are very small at 12x16in (30.5x41cm). The map is still very attractive, but you may struggle to read the smallest letters. Please buy a larger map if it's important to be able to read the map easily.
If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of Zurich by Matthaus Merian in 1638.
The locations on this map include: Lake Geneva, Lausanne, Geneva, Rhone, Grenoble, Chambery, Novara, Vercelli and Sierre.

This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone interested in the Alps or someone who has skied on the Alps!.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
