A striking map of German operations in and around the North Sea, originally published in and used by the German Wehrmacht in 1940 during the early stages of World War 2.
This is a fascinating military map with lots of interesting info, such as the locations of maritime minefields maintained by the British, German, Danish and Netherlands navies. On the left side there are detailed illustrations of the different vessels and classes of vessel in the British Navy. Concentric circles show the potential range of German bombers.
Some terrestrial features can be seen too, such as the Maginot Line and Siegfried Line.
Please note that some of the labels on this map are in German.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm) and 24x36 inches (61x91.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 100 inches (254cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 24x18 inch (61x45.5cm) version of this map.
If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of the North Sea by Abraham Ortelius in 1575.
As well as United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Belgium, France, Germany and the North Sea, many of the towns, villages and cities of these countries are visible on this map including: London, Amsterdam, Paris, Calais, Brussels, Berlin and Dublin.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone from Western Europe or someone who has a keen interest in the historical events of World War 2.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
