This is one of the finest, most detailed and attractive maps of London from the peak of Victorian England, published by George Washington Bacon in 1890 (yes, he was an American!)
This map, as you can see, is a folding map designed for people visiting London. Look closely and you'll see circles emanating from the centre of the map - they are in fact, half mile circles from Charing Cross.
The map covers most of the central London boroughs, from Battersea and north Brixton on the bottom edge, to Tower Hamlets and Bow on the right side, to Hampstead and Stoke Newington at the top, and Kensington and Bayswater on the left.
The parks of London are particularly splendid on this handcoloured map, as are the red letters and borders highlighting London's main postal codes and train stations, and a nice blue Thames wending through the middle.
This map has been lovingly sourced and restored by the Unique Maps Co. It really does look beautiful, and I guarantee you cannot find a better version of this map anywhere.
Take a look at the detailed images and try to spot your street or house! Feel free to message me if you want to confirm if a certain road is visible on this map.
This map looks great at all sizes from 16x20 inches (40x50cm) to 18x24 inches (45x60cm) and beyond. It looks best when printed large because there is so much detail on this map. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 160 inches (400cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options. I could also print this map as a wallpaper, if you are looking to wallpaper an office or hospitality space with this map.
The model in the listing images is holding the 24x18 inch (60x45cm) version of this map.
I can customise this map, if you would like to focus on a specific part of London -
get in touch.
This would make a wonderful birthday, work leaving, housewarming, Christmas or Father's Day gift for someone from London, or perhaps someone who visited and left their heart there.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
