A fantastically interesting old propaganda map, published in 1941 by the British Air Ministry to show the British public how the RAF were striking back against Nazi Germany.
The map shows that The Ruhr region of Germany, which was the centre of German heavy industry during World War 2, was bombed so heavily that you had to turn the map over to see all the bombs. (Sadly, the map sold here does not include the separate Ruhr map!)
By looking at the icons on the map, you can see the strategic targets that were being bombed by the Brits - railways, oil reserves, munition works, power stations, etc.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm) and 24x36 inches (61x91.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 60 inches (152cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (51x40.5cm) version of this map.
Please note that at 12x16 inches (31x41cm) the blue writing may be a little more difficult to read. The map is still very attractive, but you will struggle to read the smallest labels.
If you’re looking for more options, I have another interesting World War map by Ernest Dudley Chase in 1939.
Most of the towns, villages and cities of Germany are visible on this map.
The locations on this map include: The major cities of Germany such as Frankfurt, Emden, Berlin, Hanover, Bremen, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Mainz and Munich.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone who has a keen interest of the war or an avid historian.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
