This is a minimalist topographical relief map of Turkey, created by The Unique Maps Co. and enhanced with our trademarked Unique 3D process. There are no labels, no roads, and no towns — only the pure language of landforms. Light grazes the highest summits while shadows pool in valleys and basins, so you can read the country’s structure at a glance: a mountainous rim encircling broad interior plateaus, carved by rivers that thread their way to three different seas.

Along the Black Sea, the Pontic Mountains rise in a near-continuous wall. Their long ridgelines and knife-edged spurs throw crisp shadows toward the interior, while the narrow coastal belt shows as a slim, darker ribbon squeezed between summit and shore. Eastward, the Kaçkar Mountains stand out with deeply incised cirques and high crests, and the steep-sided valley of the Çoruh River can be traced by the pronounced trough it cuts through the range. On the opposite flank of Anatolia, the Taurus Mountains form an equally dramatic rampart along the Mediterranean. You can follow the corrugated forms of the Beydağları above the Gulf of Antalya, the blocky Aladağlar massifs of the Central Taurus, and the steep Amanos (Nur) range dropping toward the Gulf of İskenderun. Between these rugged arcs, the broad, luminous sweep of the Çukurova (Cilician Plain) is clearly visible as an open, low-lying expanse where the Seyhan and Ceyhan rivers meet the sea.

Set between these mountain chains, the Anatolian Plateau spreads out as a high interior tableland of subdued relief. Gentle undulations and wide basins capture the softest shadows, picking out the Konya Plain and the salt flats and margins around Tuz Gölü. Farther east, the volcanic cones of Erciyes Dağı, Hasan Dağı, and the Melendiz range punctuate the plateau like solitary beacons, their isolated summits catching the light. The sweeping arc of the Kızılırmak can be sensed in the sequence of broad valleys and low divides it exploits across central Anatolia, while the Sakarya and Yeşilırmak outline additional corridors that curl toward the Black Sea through softer, rolling country. Around Cappadocia, a finer texture appears, where layered tuffs and tablelands have been etched into a lacework of gullies and small canyons.

In Eastern Anatolia, the terrain rises and roughens into a high, cold domain of massifs and deep basins. The Erzurum–Kars plateau shows as a lofted surface interrupted by trench-like river valleys. To the south, Lake Van occupies a broad, oval basin whose rim is studded with volcanic giants: Süphan Dağı, the caldera of Nemrut Dağı near Tatvan, and farther north the long, dark ridge of Tendürek. Dominating the northeastern horizon, Ağrı Dağı (Mount Ararat) stands as a singular pyramidal mass, its radial ridges casting long, dramatic shadows that betray its volcanic heritage. From these uplands spring the twin headwaters of the Euphrates—the Karasu and Murat—cutting gorge-like valleys as they join and sweep southwest, while the Tigris rises in steep, incised country before turning southeast toward Mesopotamia. The Aras River traces a high, open valley along the far northeast, marking another broad corridor through the mountains.

Western Turkey reveals a different rhythm altogether: a series of parallel grabens and ranges running inland from the Aegean. Longitudinal valleys of the Gediz, Küçük Menderes, and Büyük Menderes appear as elongated, shadowed troughs, neatly separated by the bright backs of the Bozdağlar and Aydın Dağları. Around İzmir, the re-entrant of the gulf and its tributary valleys etch a dendritic pattern into the coast. Northward, Kaz Dağı (Mount Ida) lifts as a compact massif anchoring the entrance to the Gulf of Edremit. The Marmara region softens into lower relief: the Thracian plain unfolds to the northwest, the Bursa plain lies tucked beneath the bold, isolated bulk of Uludağ, and the Sea of Marmara is pinched by two narrow, unmistakable corridors—the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles—where light and shadow outline the straits as slender notches linking seas.

Along the Mediterranean arc, the Teke Peninsula is marked by fractured karstic uplands and abrupt coastal escarpments, while farther east the Göksu and Manavgat rivers carve steep-sided canyons through the foothills before reaching their coastal plains. In the southeast, the land tilts and opens: stepwise plateaus descend toward the Syrian frontier, and the broad Harran and Gaziantep–Urfa plains receive the great trunk valleys of the Euphrates and its tributaries. Across the map, islands of highland—Ilgaz, Küre, Canik in the north; the rugged Bingöl and Bitlis ranges in the east—cast a stippled pattern of shadows that testify to Turkey’s complex tectonic past.

Whether you live along the Bosphorus, in the shadow of Erciyes, amid the citrus groves of Çukurova, or on the Black Sea’s rain-soaked flanks, you’ll recognize your Turkey here. Light and shadow do all the storytelling—isolated peaks gleam, river corridors darken, and the great sweep of plateau and mountain reads like a relief novel. It’s a quiet, elegant way to celebrate a landscape where continents meet and the ground itself carries the memory of mountains rising and rivers finding their way to the sea.

This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. My standard frames come in six colours (black, dark brown, dark grey, antique gold, oak and white), and custom framing is available for an additional charge. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.

This map is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The map is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). Mein Standardrahmen ist ein Galerie-Stil-Rahmen aus schwarzem Eschenholz. Er ist einfach und sieht ziemlich modern aus. Mein Standardrahmen ist etwa 20 mm (0,8 Zoll) breit.

Ich verwende super-klares Acryl (Plexiglas/Acrylt) für das Glas des Rahmens. Es ist leichter und sicherer als Glas – und es sieht besser aus, da die Reflexion geringer ist.

Sechs Standardrahmenfarben sind kostenlos erhältlich (schwarz, dunkelbraun, dunkelgrau, Eiche, weiß und antikgold).

Die meisten Karten, Kunstwerke und Illustrationen sind auch als gerahmte Leinwand erhältlich. Wir verwenden matte (nicht glänzende) Baumwollleinwand, spannen sie über einen nachhaltig beschafften Buchenrahmen und 'schweben' dann das Stück innerhalb eines Holzrahmens. Das Endergebnis ist ziemlich schön, und es gibt keine Verglasung, die im Weg ist.

Alle Rahmen werden "bereit zum Aufhängen" geliefert, entweder mit einer Schnur oder Halterungen auf der Rückseite. Sehr große Rahmen haben schwere Aufhängeplatten und/oder eine Montageschiene. Wenn Sie Fragen haben, können Sie bitte Kontakt aufnehmen.

Ich beziehe originale, seltene Karten aus Bibliotheken, Auktionshäusern und Privatsammlungen auf der ganzen Welt, restauriere sie in meiner Londoner Werkstatt und erstelle dann mit speziellen Giclée-Tinten und -Druckern wunderschöne Karten, die sogar noch besser aussehen als das Original.

Meine Karten werden auf säurefreiem, mattem Archivpapier (nicht glänzend) gedruckt, das sich sehr hochwertig anfühlt und fast wie Karton aussieht. Technisch gesehen beträgt das Papiergewicht/die Papierdicke 10mil/200g/m². Es eignet sich perfekt zum Einrahmen.

Ich drucke mit UV-lichtbeständigen Ultrachrome-Giclée-Pigmenttinten von Epson – einige der besten Tinten, die Sie finden können.

Wenn Sie „Gealtert“ auswählen, werde ich Ihre Karte von Hand altern lassen. Dazu verwende ich ein spezielles und einzigartiges Verfahren, das ich durch jahrelanges Studium alter Karten und Gespräche mit Forschern zum Verständnis der Chemie alternder Papiere entwickelt habe, und natürlich ... viel Übung!

Wenn Sie sich nicht sicher sind, bleiben Sie bei der Originalfarbe der Karte. Wenn Sie etwas Dunkleres und älter Wenn Sie auf der Suche sind, entscheiden Sie sich für „Aged“.
