A dark-haired young woman occupies the centre, her face tilted upwards as cascades of pink, yellow and pale blue blossoms form an extravagant arc around her. Beyond this floral enclosure, clear blue gives way to warm orange and golden tones, suggesting distant mountains and sunlit southern air rather than offering a literal portrait of the city.
Made at the height of Belle Époque tourism, the poster belongs to a period in which travel was increasingly promoted through sophisticated commercial art. Mucha, a Czech artist closely associated with fin-de-siècle Paris, became celebrated for designs in which advertising, illustration and ornament were woven into a single visual language. His elongated formats, flowing contours and elaborately framed female figures became so recognisable that the fashionable Art Nouveau aesthetic was sometimes popularly described as “le style Mucha”. Here, Monte-Carlo is communicated less through landmarks than through an atmosphere of leisure, warmth and cultivated escape.
A closer look
The woman is both the visual centre and the still point of the composition. Wavy dark hair frames her contemplative expression, while small red flowers provide concentrated accents against the cooler surrounding blues and greens. Subtle shading gives volume to her face and arms, but the dominant effect remains graphic: crisp contours and smooth fields of colour keep the figure closely integrated with the decorative structure around her.
The floral arrangement is unusually architectural. Stems, leaves and blossoms sweep upwards from the sides and curve over the figure like an arbour or halo, creating a circular movement within the tall vertical format. Pale cerulean blooms and soft green foliage gather towards the upper left; layered pink and yellow petals descend more densely at the right. Scattered clusters of red punctuate these cooler passages, establishing a gentle rhythm across the design. Personalised and customised pieces usually take an extra 1–2 working days, because we prepare your design and send it to you for approval before printing.
Very large framed orders can take a little longer, as they need extra care in production and delivery.
Every order is carefully packaged: unframed prints are sent in a strong protective tube, while framed pieces are securely packed with protective materials around the frame.

Our standard frame is a gallery-style black ash hardwood frame, with a simple, modern look. It is approximately 20mm (0.8in) wide. You can also view some lovely customer photos of framed maps and art.
We use super-clear acrylic glazing, also known as Perspex or Acrylite, instead of traditional glass. It is lighter, safer, and has lower reflectivity, giving the artwork a clearer, cleaner appearance.
Six standard frame colours are available at no extra cost: black, dark brown, dark grey, oak, white, and antique gold. Custom framing and mounting/matting is also available for customers looking for something more specific.
Most maps, art prints, and illustrations are also available as a framed canvas. We use matte cotton canvas, stretch it over a sustainably sourced wooden box frame, and then float the piece within a wooden outer frame. The finished result is beautifully presented, with no glazing between you and the artwork.
All frames are supplied ready to hang, with either string or brackets fitted to the back. Very large frames will include heavy-duty hanging plates and/or a mounting baton. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
