A tall stem lifts a cluster of narrow pink flowers into the upper part of the composition, while long green leaves curve outwards around a rounded bulb and its exposed roots. Against the creamy, largely unoccupied ground, every contour remains distinct: the plant appears complete, isolated and exceptionally present.
Redouté was among the most accomplished botanical artists working in France at the turn of the nineteenth century. His career coincided with an expanding European interest in natural history, when close collaboration between botanists and artists made illustration essential to the description and circulation of plant knowledge. What distinguishes his work is the balance between scientific scrutiny and compositional refinement. Here, Amaryllis undulata is not reduced to a diagram; its structure is recorded precisely, yet the arching leaves, upright stem and airy crown of flowers form an arrangement of considerable elegance.
A closer look
The strongest concentration of colour occurs at the top of the plate. The blossoms are composed of slender, subtly undulating petals, their pink deepening towards the bases and paling where the light catches their surfaces. Fine lines follow the veins, while the stamens extend beyond the petals in delicate strokes. Small greenish accents at the flower tips and around the stem interrupt the pink without disturbing the restrained palette.
Below, the stem creates a firm vertical axis, but the leaves prevent the composition from becoming static. They rise and fall in long opposing curves, some turning sufficiently to reveal shifts from deep green to softer, yellow-green highlights. Their smooth, glossy appearance contrasts with the more translucent character of the petals. This alternation between straight growth and sweeping curvature gives the plant a quiet visual rhythm.
The bulb is unusually prominent rather than concealed beneath an implied ground line. Smooth and rounded, it passes from green into pale beige and brown, ending in a small network of finely described roots. This inclusion makes the illustration botanically informative while also anchoring the otherwise weightless arrangement. The surrounding negative space allows even these slight root fibres to remain legible. Along the lower margin, the flowing inscription ‘Amaryllis Undulata’ supplies the specimen’s name in a script whose curves gently echo those of the leaves above.

Mi marco estándar es un marco de madera de fresno negro estilo galería. Es simple y tiene un aspecto bastante moderno. Mi marco estándar tiene alrededor de 20 mm (0.8 in) de ancho.
Utilizo acrílico super claro (perspex/acrylite) para el vidrio del marco. Es más ligero y seguro que el vidrio, y se ve mejor, ya que la reflectividad es menor.
Seis colores de marco estándar están disponibles de forma gratuita (negro, marrón oscuro, gris oscuro, roble, blanco y oro antiguo).El enmarcado y montaje/matizado personalizado está disponible si buscas algo diferente.
La mayoría de los mapas, arte e ilustraciones también están disponibles como un lienzo enmarcado.
